STEMist Hacks

STEMist Hacks 2023 aims to spark a light in the minds of students around the world interested in tech-related fields. We hope that by adding a form of competition and fun whilst still preserving the systematic school system, we can encourage students to learn in a fresh and new way. STEMist Hacks is primarily run by STEMist Education, a bay-area-based nonprofit run by and for students.

About our Hackathon

Welcome to STEMist Hacks 2023! Join other hackers in creating a project to impress judges, and to win prizes. There will be workshops provided from our gracious sponsors, volunteers, and guest speakers to aid in your process. Or, you can start hacking the moment STEMist Hacks is open!

Ideas to Build

Build anything "tech-related" to impress judges and win prizes. This can include- AR/VR software, Camera Software, Data Analysis, Computer Science Programs, Games, Blender Videos, Mechanical Designs and Projects, Mini-Computers, Electrical or Pneumatic powered systems, a solution to a problem with an MVP coded, and much, much, more! If you have any questions, please ask on our discord server.

Requirements to Attend

Due to restrictions from DevPost, you must be 13 or older to attend without parent permission. However if you are younger, you will need parent permission especially parent supervision while filing out the forms. Thanks in advance for complying with this rule.

What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a coding event where interested people from all over the world can participate in fun coding competitions and bring their amazing ideas to life. There are also chances to win prizes! Overall hackathons are very fun experiences.
How much does it cost?
This hackathon is completely free to attend.
Do I need experience to join?
No! This is a completely beginner friendly hackathon. We have workshops and mentors available for students who are starting out, so you will learn everything you will need to compete.
Do I need a team?
We encourage both solo projects and team projects. If you need help finding a team please refer to the teambuilding channel in our discord server! <link>
Where is the hackathon?
STEMist Education will be hosting STEMist Hacks online, so you can join from anywhere! However, the workshop and ceremony times are all in PDT.
What should I do in STEMist Hacks?
You can program and create any sort of project, ranging from physical projects to software to Scratch projects to websites! Any kind of coding project is allowed.
When does registration close?
Registration closes at the opening ceremony, so you can register anytime before that!
What is the theme of the hackathon?
There is no theme for this hackathon per se. Just build a coding project, whether it be physical or digital, and wow our judges with your amazing programs.
What do I submit for the hackathon?
Submissions should be sent through our Devpost. You will need to include your team name, all of your team member names, the dev tools used if any (ex. JS for websites, Arduino for physical, etc.). It is recommended to include a Github repository for your project, as well as photos and videos demoing the project.
How do I enter the raffle?

Do I have to create a presentation?
All hackathon winners will be expected to create a presentation demoing their project which will be presented during the award ceremony.
Is cross submission allowed?
Yes, submissions from other hackathons with the same time given to create the project are allowed if there were no edits amongst that time period. The hackathon can also be on the same weekend. If cross submitting, you must include a footer note in the submission that it is a cross submission.
Do I need to attend the workshops?
The workshops and speaker sessions are completely optional but if you are interested in any topics being discussed, you are more than welcome to join!
Do I have to submit a project?
No! Submitting a project is completely optional if you wish to join only for the workshops.
